Harry Lawrence

Founder, Director, Producer

Harry is a born and bred Welshman that has stumbled into becoming a born-again Kiwi. After graduating with a BSc Hons in Psychology, he’s taken that knowledge and applied it to the world of the stage. After touring the British theatre scene, he came to New Zealand to explore unique approaches to theatre. Harry works hard behind and in front of the scenes to bring his passion to life.

Harry’s most proud credits are directing Hwyl’s staged production of Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas (Hwyl, 2024); playing Richard Rich in A Man for All Seasons in the Great Hall (Lighthouse Productions, 2023); and all of the larger than life puppets he played during his time touring (Creature Encounter UK, multiple).

Harry proudly runs multiple youth theatre initiatives across Canterbury. He manages the Canvas Bag Drama after school program, as well as founded the Canterbury Youth Theatre (2025).
